Jacksonville gets the narrow victory over Okapi

Jacksonville traveled to Weston, FL to play new comers, Okapi Wanderers in the second matrix match of the 2016-2017 FRU Division II match up. On the hot January afternoon, Jacksonville traveled fairly light due to injury and personal matters, but were up for the challenge with Okapi having home soil. The game started in Jacksonville’s favor with 8-Man Taylor “Thor” Youngling taking a crash up the middle and scoring under the post. Okapi would come back with a try of their own through their shifty backline. It seemed to be the story throughout the match as a battle of the backs was among the top challenges of the game. Jacksonville would score a try by winger Sean Balaban to end the half down by a few points.

JAX would come back in the second half, putting up two fast tries from centre David Washington and Aaron Church. Conversions on both tries were good. With the final 10 mins remaining, Okapi would come back and score multiple tries through the backline and would go up back 4 points with minutes remaining. Off a line-out, Jacksonville would get a chance with Thor crashing up the middle, but knocked-on in the try zone. Scrum would go to Okapi, but Jacksonville would get the advantage from a scrum infraction and would get the final shot to win the game. Jacksonville wins the scrum and after a few crash balls, Prop Tristan Morhous would put it in with a minute remaining. Jacksonville would hold Okapi off and win the game 29-28. Next game will be against Boca Raton on January 28th at Abess Park in Jacksonville, FL.
